Internship Philips Healthworks. Individual project. September 2018 – December 2018

In the semester B3.1 every student has the opportunity to do activities outside the safe walls of our faculty. I made the choice to do an internship, because I think there is a lot more to learn than the things we learn at the university. I think that you can learn to improve valuable skills in a professional setting, like communicating with people from different disciplines. Next to this I wanted to take the opportunity to experience what it is like to work in a design company, how the atmosphere is and how different it is from the university.

I did my internship at the company Philips. I was an intern within the department Philips Healthworks for the venture MyHealthJourney. MyHealthJourney is a personal health record (PHR) with several extra functionalities, with the general public as target group. A PHR is a tool which can be used by every individual to oversee their own health data by being able to access it, manage it and share it [1]. Within MyHealthJourney I worked in a small dedicated team with the goal to create content for self-care programs. These self-care programs are meant for users to get them to learn more about lifestyle topics like nutrition and activity. For this assignment I had to put myself into the perspective of the user and make sure that I wrote interesting and engaging content. In my internship I had the opportunity to work on my professional skills and on my development of the expertise areas ‘User & Society’, ‘Technology and Realization’ and ‘Creativity and Aesthetics’.
